Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation in South Cotabato after confirming 10 cases of mpox across six municipalities.
Four cases were recorded in T’Boli, two in Surallah, and one each in Banga, Koronadal, Tantangan, and Lake Sebu, according to Dr. Conrado Braña, chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
The confirmed cases are part of 19 suspected mpox cases reported from rural health units and hospitals in the province. Of the 19, six have tested negative, while three are still awaiting confirmation from the Department of Health (DOH).
Dr. Braña noted that most patients had no travel history or known exposure to previously confirmed cases, raising concerns over local transmission. All cases reported so far have been classified as mild.
All patients are currently receiving appropriate medical care. Meanwhile, health teams are conducting extensive contact tracing and monitoring individuals who were exposed to confirmed cases.
In response, the province has ramped up its disease surveillance and launched an information drive to help prevent further spread of the virus.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to report any symptoms and follow safety protocols, especially in affected areas.
