A 42-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle allegedly involved in a street race along Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Banilad shortly after 3 a.m. on Sept. 11.
Police identified the drivers involved as Billy and Ralph, both 22 years old.
According to authorities, the victim, identified as John, was crossing at a pedestrian lane when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by Billy. He died from the severity of his injuries.
Police said Billy reportedly got out of his vehicle after the incident and boarded another car allegedly racing with him before fleeing the area.
A taxi driver who witnessed the incident reportedly attempted to stop the suspects. However, the taxi was also allegedly hit, and the suspects continued their escape.
Ralph was arrested after he allegedly returned to the crime scene. He may face charges for obstruction of justice and violations of Republic Act 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.
Authorities are conducting a hot pursuit operation against Billy. He may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
The investigation remains ongoing as police pursue the second suspect and continue documenting the circumstances surrounding the alleged street race and the fatal incident.
