Woman caught with bullets at Mactan Airport, faces charges

A 47-year-old female passenger was caught carrying four bullets in her hand-carry baggage at Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Lapu-Lapu City.

Personnel from the Office for Transportation Security detected objects resembling bullets inside her bag during an X-ray security screening on Thursday, March 27.

Authorities immediately conducted a manual inspection and discovered the bullets inside a pouch within her bag.

The passenger, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City and reportedly working as a Human Resources (HR) manager, was scheduled to fly to Tacloban, Leyte. When asked for proper documentation, she failed to present any.

She was arrested for violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, as well as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

She underwent inquest proceedings on March 28, 2025, and was granted bail on Monday, March 31.

As of writing, the passenger has yet to provide a statement regarding the incident.

MCIA Police Chief Police Major Ricky Calong reminded passengers to thoroughly check their baggage, especially if handed over by someone else, and to refrain from carrying bullets, which some believe serve as lucky charms.
