Vice President Sara Duterte again declined to disclose the identity of her potential running mate for the 2028 national elections.
Duterte confirmed that she had already spoken with a possible vice presidential partner last year, but said the individual has yet to make a final decision.
According to the vice president, it is more important for now to keep the selection process private while efforts to recruit a possible tandem for the next national elections are still ongoing.
She said revealing the identity of the potential running mate at this stage could expose the individual to political attacks and unnecessary pressure from opponents.
Duterte stressed that maintaining confidentiality is part of protecting the person being considered while discussions are still underway.
The vice president did not provide further details about the individual she approached for the possible partnership.
Meanwhile, Duterte also confirmed that four individuals have already approached her expressing interest in joining her senatorial slate for the 2028 elections.
However, she did not disclose the names of the individuals who signified interest, nor did she outline any specific qualifications or criteria for those who may be included in the lineup.
Duterte likewise did not elaborate on how or when the final selection of candidates for the senatorial slate would be made.
In February, Duterte previously acknowledged that she had already begun recruiting a potential running mate as early as 2025.
Despite the ongoing discussions, the vice president has remained firm in withholding details regarding the possible tandem for the upcoming elections.
Her statements come as political figures in the Philippines gradually begin early preparations and positioning ahead of the 2028 national polls.
