VP Sara calls House impeachment proceedings ‘fishing expedition’

Vice President Sara Duterte described the ongoing proceedings of the House Justice Committee on impeachment complaints against her as a “fishing expedition.”

In a statement, Duterte criticized what she referred to as a “mini-trial” conducted by the committee in relation to two impeachment complaints filed against her.

She said the committee’s invitation for her to appear was being used to build a narrative of a “mini-trial” based on her alleged failure to attend and respond to the proceedings.

Duterte emphasized that her camp had already submitted an Answer ad Cautelam addressing the complaints. She said the committee should dismiss the complaints due to what she described as a lack of evidence.

The vice president also accused lawmakers of prioritizing politics over the welfare of millions of Filipinos currently facing economic difficulties.

According to Duterte, the country is confronting pressing issues such as the possible closure of businesses, job losses, and hardships experienced by Filipino families due to increasing fuel prices.

She stressed that these economic concerns should be given priority, instead of what she described as politically motivated actions.

The impeachment complaints remain under review by the House Justice Committee, which is tasked with evaluating the validity of the cases filed against the vice president.
