Violent jeep collision at Cebu intersection caught on CCTV

Two traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJs) collided at the junction of D. Jakosalem and V. Gullas, Cebu City streets on Friday morning, May 1, with the crash captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Video footage showed one jeep traveling through the intersection when another jeep suddenly entered from the opposite direction and moved straight ahead, resulting in a collision at the junction.

The impact caused one of the vehicles, driven by a man identified as Alias El-el and bound for Lahug, to tilt to its side.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, El-el said he was moving forward after receiving a green signal. He said he did not expect the other jeep to suddenly enter the intersection at speed.

None of the four passengers onboard El-el’s jeep were injured during the incident. However, the driver reported experiencing body pain after being struck by objects inside the vehicle during the collision.

On the other side, a passenger of the jeep driven by Alias Encio said their vehicle was moving slowly before suddenly accelerating upon reaching the intersection.

Encio later said he beat the red light prior to the crash.

Authorities reminded motorists to strictly observe traffic laws, particularly at busy intersections, to avoid similar incidents.

Traffic officials emphasized the importance of obeying traffic signals, noting that violations such as running red lights can lead to serious collisions even when vehicles are traveling at moderate speeds.
