The camp of the victims disagrees with the statement of former presidential spokesperson and legal counsel Salvador Panelo that the defense had weakened the prosecution’s case against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
This came after the third day of the confirmation of charges hearing against Duterte before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In an earlier interview, Panelo claimed that the “prosecution theory” had been “shattered to pieces.”
However, human rights lawyer Neri Colmenares pushed back against the statement, saying he sees no indication that the former president’s camp had shattered the prosecution’s case.
In fact, he said they believe it was the defense’s evidence that appeared weak, while the prosecution’s evidence remained strong.
Ex-Pres. Duterte ‘in good spirits’ ahead of final defense submissions at ICC
Defense lawyer Nicholas Kaufman shared that former President Rodrigo Duterte remains “in good spirits” as the defense prepares to complete its submissions for the confirmation of charges hearing before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Kaufman said he met with Duterte to brief him on everything that transpired during the proceedings.
According to the lawyer, the former president has not been monitoring the hearings after being permitted not to attend.
Despite this, Kaufman said he continues to regularly update his client as part of his responsibilities.
