Vice mayoral candidate shot in Lucena City

A vice mayoral candidate from Plaridel, Quezon was wounded in a shooting incident late Monday night, April 29, in Lucena City, Quezon.

The victim was identified as former mayor Wilfredo Magbuhos Jr., who is currently running for vice mayor of Plaridel. He sustained gunshot wounds to his right arm and left leg.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 11:57 p.m. in front of Prime Water along Old Maharlika Highway, Barangay Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City.

Magbuhos told authorities that the shooting happened just as his employee was stepping out of their vehicle. An unidentified suspect allegedly attempted to snatch his bag. When he resisted, the suspect shot him, hitting his arm and leg.

The victim was immediately brought to a hospital and underwent surgery for the gunshot wounds. He is currently recovering.

Local police have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the motive behind the incident. They have not ruled out the possibility of robbery or other angles related to his political involvement.
