The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed Local Government Units (LGUs) to carry out infrastructure audits on public and private buildings within their jurisdictions.
In a statement, the DILG said it is crucial to evaluate the structural integrity of buildings to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of damage and casualties during disasters.
According to the agency, with earthquakes becoming more frequent and stronger, “proactive preparedness” remains the strongest defense.
The department also encouraged the private sector to work with regional government agencies, engineering associations, and academic institutions through the Local Infrastructure Learning Hubs that will be established in DILG regional offices.
In the end, the DILG said that by setting up modern safety mechanisms and strong intersectoral collaboration, the agency reaffirms its commitment to building disaster-ready communities.
