The United States Navy will construct a new boat maintenance facility in Palawan, according to a public solicitation released earlier this month.
On July 7, the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command opened bidding for the design and construction of the facility at Naval Detachment Oyster Bay in Palawan.
The U.S. Embassy in Manila said the facility will support repair and maintenance operations for small military watercraft.
It will also feature two multi-purpose interior rooms designated for equipment storage and conference functions.
In a statement, the embassy clarified that the project is not a military base.
The facility has been approved by the Philippine government and complies with both U.S. and Philippine regulations, the embassy added.
No further details were disclosed regarding the timeline or the specific units that will use the facility.
