Two grade 11 students in uniform arrested for marijuana in Cebu

An 18-year-old student was arrested while his 16-year-old companion was rescued after police found them in possession of suspected marijuana in Cebu City on Tuesday afternoon, August 5.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. in Sitio Amor, Barangay Sambag 1. Both individuals are male Grade 11 students and were reportedly still wearing their school uniforms when authorities arrived.

According to police, the Abellana Police Station received a call through the 911 emergency hotline about the alleged presence of suspected drug peddlers in the area. Responding officers immediately went to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found the two students and allegedly discovered a roll of paper containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The 18-year-old was taken into custody, while the 16-year-old was placed under protective custody in line with protocols for minors. Both were brought to the police station for proper disposition.

Authorities have not released the names of the students due to their ages and the ongoing investigation. Samples of the seized material will be sent to a crime laboratory for confirmation.

Police said they are also investigating whether the two were involved in selling the substance or if it was solely for personal use.

The incident has drawn concern from local officials and school authorities, who stressed the need for stronger anti-drug education and community vigilance.
