A truck driver was arrested after allegedly using part of the money he was supposed to remit to his employer to bet on an online scatter game, police said.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Vin,” 43, is a resident of Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City.
According to the initial police investigation, Vin had been entrusted to remit payments collected from delivered construction supplies amounting to ₱149,623 to the company where he worked.
However, when it was time to turn over the funds, the company discovered that ₱40,000 was missing from the total amount that should have been remitted.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, Vin admitted that he used the missing ₱40,000 to play an online scatter game. He said he had hoped to recover the money before submitting the company’s remittance.
Instead, he lost the money through gambling and was unable to replace the missing amount.
Authorities arrested the suspect following the discovery of the missing funds.
Police said Vin is now facing a charge of qualified theft in connection with the incident.
The alleged offense occurred in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, on June 25, 2026.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the case as the legal proceedings move forward.
The investigation remains based on the suspect’s admission and the findings of the initial police inquiry.
