Two children died while another was injured after a tree collapsed on them in Doña Salud, Km 10, Sasa, Davao City, around 2:00 p.m. on May 13.
According to a report from the Sasa Police Station, the fatalities were identified as Paul John Pastera and Marcus Pagal. The two victims were immediately brought to a nearby hospital but were later declared dead.
Initial police investigation revealed that the victims were playing inside an abandoned house in the area when a tree unexpectedly fell and hit them.
One other child who was with them sustained injuries but survived the incident. The extent of the injuries was not detailed in the report.
The bodies of the two children have been turned over to their families for proper arrangements.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the tree to collapse. There is no indication of foul play, but the police are continuing their investigation.
Local residents have expressed concern about the safety of abandoned structures in the area, particularly those surrounded by old and possibly unstable trees.
The incident highlights the need for regular inspection and clearing of potentially dangerous areas, especially those frequented by children.
