A teacher and his pregnant wife were shot dead inside their computer shop in Matalam, Cotabato, on the evening of May 14, authorities confirmed.
The victims were identified by the Matalam Police as Eliser Sugaste, a teacher at Matalam National High School, and his wife, Lalaine Tejada Sugaste. Both were residents of the area.
According to the initial police report, the couple was preparing to close their shop in Barangay Poblacion when the suspects arrived and demanded the keys to their motorcycle.
Despite complying and handing over the keys, the suspects shot the victims before fleeing the scene.
The couple was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspects and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Police have not disclosed any further motive beyond the apparent robbery. The case has drawn outrage online and in the local community, especially due to the death of the pregnant woman.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving the double homicide.
