SUV crashes into motorcycle, five injured including minor

Five individuals, including a minor, sustained injuries after a motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle in Barangay Magsaysay, Santa Rita, Samar on February 25.

Authorities identified the motorcycle riders as Henry Mahinay, 62, Cyrel Balondo, 19, and a 12-year-old girl, all residents of Barangay Laygayon, Pinabacdao, Samar.

Police also identified the SUV driver as Lady Angela, 29, a medical doctor residing in Barangay San Policarpio, Calbayog, Samar.

Police Corporal Clemente Basibas III, investigator of the Santa Rita Municipal Police Station, conducted a preliminary inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the vehicular collision.

Initial findings revealed that the SUV traveled from Calbayog toward Tacloban when the driver reportedly felt drowsy and lost control.

Investigators said the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane, directly intruding into the path of the approaching motorcycle.

The SUV struck the motorcycle with significant force, causing the riders to be thrown violently upon impact.

The collision also hit Elena Amasco and Kimberly Kate Cabañas, who stood roadside while waiting for transportation.

Emergency responders rushed all five injured victims to Tacloban City St. Paul’s Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Doctors continue to monitor their conditions, while authorities pursue further investigation to determine additional factors contributing to the crash.
