An 18-year-old student died after being run over by an ambulance on the Archbishop Reyes Avenue flyover in Barangay Luz, Cebu City, Tuesday afternoon, April 14, 2026.
The victim was identified as Braille Nichole Kwek, who was set to celebrate her birthday on April 22. Authorities said she was declared dead on the spot after reportedly being run over by the ambulance.
Her companion, identified as Juan Antonio Ladioray, 19, who was driving the motorcycle, remains in critical condition.
Both victims were first-year college students taking up Mechanical Engineering at a private university.
Police said in their initial investigation that the ambulance was reportedly counterflowing while responding to an emergency call.
Authorities added that the ambulance was carrying a stroke patient at the time of the incident when it collided with the motorcycle carrying the victims.
The 23-year-old driver of the ambulance is now under the custody of the Mabolo Police Station as the investigation continues.
Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions taken by the ambulance driver during the emergency response.
