Student caught with ₱3.7-million shabu at Davao checkpoint

A 31-year-old student was arrested after authorities at a Task Force Davao checkpoint in Sirawan, Toril, Davao City, found ₱3.7 million worth of suspected shabu in his possession.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jade,” is a resident of Magsaysay, Carmen, Davao del Norte. Police said he was entering Davao City when the incident happened.

According to a report from the Davao City Police Office, Jade was approaching the scanner area when a plastic sachet containing a white substance fell from his belongings.

Checkpoint personnel, composed of police officers and soldiers, approached him for questioning. When asked, the student reportedly became visibly nervous, prompting authorities to request a physical inspection.

During the search, officers discovered several packets of suspected shabu strapped to his body. The seized drugs were later estimated to be worth ₱3,757,000.

The suspect was immediately detained and is now facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Authorities reminded the public that Task Force Davao checkpoints remain on heightened alert to prevent the entry of illegal drugs into the city.
