A 77-year-old mother was killed by her own son after an argument over dinner in Barangay Macupa, Leyte, Leyte, on October 7, 2025.
Police said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at the family’s home in Sitio Riverside. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect, identified only as “Rick,” 35, had just arrived home from work when he got angry upon seeing that no meal was prepared.
In a fit of rage, he reportedly picked up a stone and struck his mother, identified as “Amy,” on the head, causing her instant death.
The suspect attempted to flee after the attack but was later arrested by responding officers from the Leyte Municipal Police Station. Authorities are still investigating whether the suspect may have had a mental health problem, citing the unusually violent nature of the crime.
Police said further inquiries and psychological assessment may be conducted to determine the suspect’s condition and possible motive.
The case remains under investigation.
