Senator Imee Marcos denied allegations that the so-called “Duterte Bloc” is solely behind the circulating resolutions aimed at halting the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos said she suspects that some allies within the current administration are also working to stop the impeachment trial, not just supporters of the Duterte camp.
According to her, certain administration members might be pushing against the proceedings because they fear losing the case, which could lead to embarrassment.
She also noted that the series of resolutions surfacing in the Senate might be part of efforts by legislators to look for a proper process in handling the case. Marcos stressed that this move appears to be a search for a legal and procedural solution, not merely a political maneuver.
Furthermore, Marcos pointed out that the delay in the impeachment process should not be blamed on the Senate. Instead, she urged a closer look at the actions taken by the House of Representatives, which she believes should be held accountable for fulfilling its obligation in the proceedings.
