A suspect in an earlier fatal shooting was wounded after an alleged exchange of gunfire with police responding to a report of an armed man in Cordova, Cebu, late Wednesday.
According to the Cordova Municipal Police Station, officers received a report from a concerned citizen at about 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 5 regarding an armed man in Sitio Tomoy, Barangay Ibabao.
Responding officers said they spotted a man matching the description provided in the report.
Police alleged that when the suspect noticed the officers, he ran into an abandoned house and opened fire.
Authorities returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was identified only as Merson, 31, also known by the alias “Balot.”
He was immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police said the suspect is also being linked to the fatal shooting of a man in Cordova on July 12 and that a murder case has already been filed against him.
At the scene, investigators recovered a revolver loaded with four rounds of ammunition.
Authorities also recovered two packets of suspected shabu weighing an estimated six grams, along with drug paraphernalia.
The recovered items will undergo proper documentation and processing as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have not released additional information regarding the suspect’s medical condition.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, including the alleged exchange of gunfire and the evidence recovered during the operation.
No other injuries were reported by police during the incident.
