Loren Legarda has commended the significant progress in poverty reduction in Antique.
From once being among the poorest provinces in the country, Antique is now steadily advancing and emerging as a potential development model for growth.
Legarda, a former representative of the province’s lone district, has continuously pushed for policies, legislation, and program investments aimed at boosting development in the area.
She noted that developing existing local resources can help strengthen value chains and drive economic progress.
Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the poverty incidence among families in Antique declined from 18.2% in 2021 to 13.8% in 2023.
This translates to around 20,800 poor families, indicating significant improvements in income levels and community conditions.
As a result, the figures are now closer to the pre-pandemic level of 12.9% recorded in 2018.
