Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson said his position on the issue of extradition remains unchanged.
Lacson said he believes foreign courts should respect local courts in the Philippines. He stressed that international authorities cannot simply carry out arrests in the country without following proper procedures.
According to Lacson, any arrest operations by the international criminal police organization must first go through Philippine authorities such as the Philippine National Police or the National Bureau of Investigation. He added that these agencies, as well as local courts, must be respected.
Despite his comments, the senator clarified that his opinion does not necessarily mean he is correct, nor does it mean that others are wrong.
He said he consults legal experts before expressing his views on the issue.
In the end, Lacson said he believes only the Supreme Court has the authority to determine what is legally correct regarding the matter.
