Security guards return bag with nearly ₱1M in cash in Mandaue City

Several security guards in Mandaue City demonstrated honesty after returning a bag containing nearly ₱1 million in cash and checks that had been left behind at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Reports said the bag was discovered around 5 p.m. on Jan. 8 by personnel from the City Civil Service Unit while conducting routine roving duties in the area. The bag had reportedly been left unattended on a seat inside the complex.

After finding the item, the personnel immediately turned it over to management to ensure the contents were properly secured. Authorities safeguarded the bag and its valuables until it was successfully claimed by its rightful owner.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod recognized the guards’ integrity and praised them during its regular session on Feb. 2. City officials commended the personnel for their honesty in handling the situation.

Those identified and honored were Renaldo Gerra, Dennis Mahilum, Ronnie Momongan and Alejandro Tein.

Authorities later learned that the bag had allegedly been left behind by a collector who was in the city to renew a permit.

The City Council of Mandaue formally acknowledged the actions of the four security guards, citing their conduct as an example of trustworthiness and professionalism.

The incident drew attention as an example of integrity, with officials noting the proper handling and return of the bag despite the large amount of cash involved.
