Security guard shot dead while resting in Davao City

A 59-year-old security guard was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen early Saturday morning in Bangkal, Davao City.

The victim, identified as Fernando, married and a resident of SIR New Matina, was resting in a hammock at his post near gas station in Bangkal, when the attack happened around 12:50 a.m.

According to a witness, also a guard, he heard several gunshots and found Fernando shot in the face. He immediately called police for help.

Responding personnel from Davao City Police conducted an ocular inspection. Central 911 rushed Fernando to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Bajada, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Another witness reported seeing a motorcycle with two riders. The back rider reportedly disembarked and fired at the victim before both suspects fled the area.

The SOCO team, recovered 12 fired 9mm cartridge cases at the scene. The evidence is now under the custody of the Regional Forensic Unit.

Investigators also conducted fingerprint and paraffin tests at the hospital.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. Talomo Police are conducting a hot pursuit operation to apprehend the suspects.
