Romualdez to face criminal case over alleged ₱241B budget insertion

House Speaker Martin Romualdez and two other lawmakers are set to face criminal charges over an alleged ₱241 billion budget insertion in the 2025 national budget.

Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez made the revelation during a media forum held today, where he was joined by lawyers Jimmy Bondoc, Raul Lambino, and Ferdinand Topacio, along with the non-government organization Citizen Crime Watch.

Attorney Topacio disclosed that the case for falsification of legislative documents is set to be filed on Monday, Feb. 10. He emphasized that the alleged crime is not only a violation of the Revised Penal Code but also an offense against the Filipino people.

Alvarez further claimed that the substantial budget insertion was made without congressional approval and was not discussed in the bicameral committee.

Earlier, Davao City 3rd District Rep. Isidro Ungab, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and lawyer Vic Rodriguez had raised concerns about alleged blank bicam reports in the Basta Dabawenyo podcast segment.
