Rep. Abante suggests expulsion of Rep. Barzaga

A Manila lawmaker said he believes it would be better to expel Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga rather than impose another suspension.

Manila 6th District Rep. Benny Abante made the remark when asked about the new 60-day suspension issued against Barzaga. In an interview with Brigada NewsFM Manila, Abante said Barzaga himself had previously asked to be expelled, and that granting the request may be the more appropriate step.

Abante said the expulsion may be necessary if Barzaga continues what he described as ridicule and criticism directed at him. He said that if such actions persist, expulsion would likely be the next move.

According to Abante, Barzaga has indicated he is prepared not to attend plenary sessions regardless of any disciplinary action taken against him. Abante said this position reinforces the possibility that expulsion could be pursued instead of further suspensions.

The latest development follows the imposition of a 60-day suspension against Barzaga. Details about the grounds for the disciplinary action were not discussed in the interview cited.

Abante said his view is based on Barzaga’s statements and conduct, as well as the ongoing dispute. He maintained that expulsion may be more appropriate if the situation does not change.

There was no immediate comment from Barzaga in the report.

The issue comes amid continuing tensions related to disciplinary actions within the House of Representatives. Further actions will depend on developments involving the lawmakers concerned and any decisions by the chamber.
