A radio broadcaster survived an ambush after unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Barangay Cagay, Roxas City, Capiz at around 5 a.m. on Monday, June 22.
The victim was identified as Jay Lavapiez.
According to an initial police investigation, Lavapiez was on his way to the radio station where he works when two unidentified men attacked his vehicle. The suspects allegedly fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
The shooting incident was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), providing investigators with footage that may assist in identifying the assailants.
Despite the attack, Lavapiez was not injured and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police officers immediately responded to the scene, while members of the Capiz Forensic Unit conducted crime scene processing.
Authorities recovered several spent shell casings during the investigation.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) directed the Capiz Police Provincial Office and the Roxas City Police Station to organize a Special Investigation Team to expedite the resolution of the case.
Investigators are currently reviewing evidence gathered from the crime scene and analyzing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police also appealed to the public to provide information that could help identify and locate the suspects involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security condemned the incident, describing it as an attack against a member of the media.
The Roxas City Government also denounced the shooting and expressed support for efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
As of this writing, authorities have not announced any arrests or identified a motive behind the ambush.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the gunmen responsible.
