PUV aid payouts to remain manual, says DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) maintained that it is prioritizing verification over speed in the distribution of cash assistance to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

In a press briefing, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian explained why payouts have not yet been fully digitized.

According to Gatchalian, proper validation and verification are necessary.

He stressed that authorities need to ensure that recipients are legitimate individuals and active drivers, especially since this is the first tranche of the program.

The secretary added that digital payouts for assistance are possible, but the government must first complete the validation process.

While the government has the capability to digitize the system, he said the initial phase should focus on thorough verification.
