Protesters hurl mud at Discaya residence in Pasig

Flood victims and environmental groups stormed the compound of St. Gerrard Construction in Pasig City on Thursday, condemning what they called widespread corruption in government flood control projects linked to the Discaya family.

Protesters hurled mud at the compound’s gates and spray-painted the words “korap” and “magnanakaw” as part of their demonstration.

The group People Surge, which joined the protest, said every peso allegedly stolen by contractors and politicians translates to families drowning in floods, farmers losing their livelihoods, and communities forced to evacuate.

Despite accusations of vandalism, protesters defended their actions. They argued that the corruption tied to flood control projects was far worse than defacing property, pointing to the alleged involvement of the Discaya family and other contractors in questionable deals.

Pasig City police responded with what they described as maximum tolerance, but authorities clarified that vandalism cannot be condoned even during protests. Officials said those involved may face charges of malicious mischief for painting and throwing mud at the gates of the construction firm.

Police added that they will coordinate with the Discaya family to assist them in filing formal complaints.
