Police chief, two others killed by fellow officer in Negros Oriental

A police chief and two other officers were killed after they were allegedly shot by a fellow police officer late Friday night in Brgy. Tubtubon, Sibulan, Negros Oriental authorities said.

The victims were identified as Police Capt. Jose Edrohil Cimafranca, chief of the Sibulan Municipal Police Station; Police Senior Master Sgt. Tristan Chua; and Patrolman Rey Albert Temblor. All three were assigned to the Sibulan Police Station.

The suspect was identified as Police Staff Sgt. Bonifacio Saycon, also a member of the Sibulan police force. He voluntarily surrendered to authorities several hours after the incident.

Initial police investigation showed that at about 9:35 p.m., a shooting incident occurred at a bar in Sibulan, where a woman identified as Sheila Mae Dinanao was allegedly shot and killed by Saycon. The three police officers responded to the scene and were able to arrest the suspect.

While the suspect was under custody and inside a private vehicle en route to the police station, Saycon allegedly opened fire, shooting the three officers. All three sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Following the incident, Saycon fled but later surrendered at around 10:45 p.m. at the Tanjay City Police Station. He turned over his issued firearm to the authorities upon surrender.

Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding both shooting incidents. Further details are expected as authorities continue their probe.
