Newly Elected Mayor of Legazpi, Atty. Alfredo “Pido” Garbin, Jr., to assume office on monday

Atty. Alfredo “Pido” Garbin, Jr., former Congressman of Ako Bicol Party-list and 2022 Mayoralty candidate, will officially assume office as the new mayor of Legazpi City on Monday, November 11, 2024, following the release of a writ of execution by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) En Banc.

In a statement issued by the COMELEC, the writ directs the new Special City Board of Canvassers (SCBOC) for Legazpi City to annul the previous proclamation of Carmen Geraldine Rosal as mayor and amend the Certificate of Canvass of Votes based on the Amended Statement of Votes by Precinct. This decision comes after issues regarding the accuracy of the original vote tally.

The COMELEC ordered that the candidate who received the highest number of votes based on the corrected canvassing will be proclaimed as the duly elected mayor of the city. This has cleared the way for Garbin’s official assumption of office.

Under the writ, the SCBOC is also tasked with providing copies of the amended proclamation to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Provincial Government of Albay, the City Government of Legazpi, and other concerned parties. Director Celia B. Romero of the Election Records and Statistics Department (ERSD) is instructed to submit a certified copy of the 2022 election results to the SCBOC on November 11, 2024, at the COMELEC Session Hall in Intramuros, Manila.
