PhilHealth admits return of ₱60B excess funds comes with challenges

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) acknowledged that the Supreme Court’s directive for the executive branch to return ₱60 billion in excess funds to the agency comes with significant responsibilities.

According to PhilHealth spokesperson Israel Francis Pargas, they expect the amount to be returned next year, noting that the funds will help support and sustain all of the agency’s programs.

Pargas emphasized that while the additional funds will improve services and benefits for Filipinos, it also presents a challenge for PhilHealth to match the trust given by the Supreme Court and the public.

He added that every peso contributed to PhilHealth must translate into actual benefits for members.

The Supreme Court recently ordered the return of the ₱60 billion to the agency.
