President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his respect for Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile’s stance after the latter criticized opposition to the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, which was highlighted during a peace rally organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo.
In an ambush interview in Leyte, Marcos described Enrile as one of the country’s top legal minds.
He agreed with Enrile’s statement that bypassing the Constitution to shield an individual or group from impeachment could create a harmful precedent.
However, the president emphasized that this is not the right time to focus on the issue.
While it is the mandate of Congress and the Senate to deliberate on the impeachment complaint against Duterte, Marcos expressed doubts that it would progress as the campaign period approaches.
“There will likely be no quorum among congressmen and senators since they will be busy campaigning,” Marcos explained.
