Pampanga traffic cop hit by van while directing traffic

A police officer from the Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station in Pampanga was injured after being struck by a van while directing traffic early Saturday morning in Barangay San Matias.

According to the Police Regional Office 3, the officer was managing the traffic flow when a white Mitsubishi L300, driven by a 49-year-old local resident, failed to slow down and hit him.

Authorities reported that the officer was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and is now in stable condition. The driver of the van was promptly arrested at the scene. His vehicle was also confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Officials confirmed that the suspect is set to face appropriate charges related to the incident.

The local police have not yet released the name of the injured officer or the driver, pending further investigation and formal filing of charges.

Authorities reminded motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially when approaching areas where traffic enforcers are deployed to prevent accidents and injuries.

The incident caused temporary congestion along the busy barangay road but was later cleared by responding police units.
