Over 80% of Filipinos believe women’s role is to care for family, home – SWS

More than 80 percent of Filipinos believe that women are responsible for taking care of the home and family, according to a survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Based on the Fourth Quarter 2025 survey conducted from November 24 to 30, 2025, about 83% of respondents agreed with the statement that “a man’s job is to earn money while a woman’s job is to take care of the home and family.” Meanwhile, 8% disagreed, while 9% were undecided.

The survey also found that 81% of respondents believe being a housewife can be just as fulfilling as having a paid job. Meanwhile, 75% said most women prefer having a home and children.

At the same time, 71% agreed that a working mother can fulfill her responsibilities to her children and spouse, while 63% said it may be difficult for young children if their mother is working.

The survey further showed that 51% believe family life is affected when a woman or mother works full-time.

The nationwide survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above from Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
