More than 115,000 Filipinos die each year due to health complications linked to smoking, vaping, and excessive alcohol consumption, according to the latest Global Burden Study.

The report highlights the growing health impact of tobacco and electronic cigarette use in the country, noting their connection to serious illnesses such as heart disease, lung problems, and nicotine addiction.

Health experts have warned that vaping, often seen as a “safer” alternative to smoking, is proving equally harmful. Excessive alcohol intake, on the other hand, remains a major concern due to its link to domestic violence, road accidents, and liver disease.

In one documented case last year, a 22-year-old man died from a heart attack related to severe lung injury after two years of regular vaping.
