The Office of the Ombudsman is preparing to file the first batch of cases related to the flood control scandal before the Sandiganbayan as early as next week or within 30 days.
According to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, former Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co is among those who may be included in the initial set of individuals to be charged.
He added that several others are on the list of respondents, including other members of Congress. However, the Ombudsman has yet to confirm whether senators will also be among those to face charges.
Co has been linked to alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects, particularly flood control works in Bulacan.
Former district and assistant engineers have testified that Co was involved in budget insertions amounting to at least ₱35 billion from 2022 to 2025, with allegations that he received kickbacks, including ₱1 billion in cash reportedly delivered in suitcases.
Remulla explained that once the case is filed, Co’s passport will be cancelled.
