The Office of the Ombudsman has dismissed rumors that Department of Public Works and Highways engineers Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza plan to recant their testimonies linking senators and several members of the House of Representatives to corruption in flood control projects.
According to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano, he believes the reports are merely noise.
He added that such moves would only affect their admission into the witness protection program.
It can be recalled that Ramon Tulfo earlier released information about an alleged “game plan” by the so-called BGC Boys to withdraw their statements that implicated high-ranking government officials in the alleged flood control scam.
Based on Tulfo’s information, lawyers of the BGC Boys are allegedly in talks with the camp of Vice President Sara Duterte, who may face impeachment next month.
Their supposed hope, Tulfo said, is that Vice President Duterte will be acquitted by the Senate and eventually win the presidency in 2028.
If she wins, Alcantara, Mendoza, and Hernandez would allegedly be granted executive clemency.
Tulfo also claimed that Duterte needs her allied senators to remain in place, since a physical vote is required in the Senate impeachment trial.
Among the senators earlier implicated by the BGC Boys were Senators Chiz Escudero, Joel Villanueva, and Jinggoy Estrada.
