NMC: PH activities in Pag-asa and Lawak Islands are ‘legitimate exercises’

The National Maritime Council (NMC) stressed that the Philippine government’s ongoing administration and development efforts in the Municipality of Kalayaan are “legitimate exercises” aimed at improving the welfare, safety, and livelihood of Filipinos living in the community.

This came after the Department of National Defense (DND) rejected China’s claim of having “indisputable sovereignty” over the area.

The council also emphasized the Philippines’ sovereign duty and right to improve conditions in maritime features within the Kalayaan Island Group for the benefit of residents living there.
