Nesthy Petecio determined to qualify for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Filipino boxing champion Nesthy Petecio is more determined than ever to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics following a significant development from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Petecio, a two-time Olympian and a 2024 Paris Games bronze medalist, is eager to claim the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal in boxing. She expressed her gratitude to the IOC for granting provisional recognition to the sport, ensuring its continued presence in future Olympic events.

Boxing’s Olympic status was previously at risk after the International Boxing Association (IBA) lost its IOC recognition due to governance issues. This uncertainty left many boxers worldwide concerned about their future in the sport. However, with efforts from multiple countries, boxing remains in the Summer Olympic Games lineup.

The formation of World Boxing, which includes the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) as a member, played a crucial role in preserving the sport’s Olympic status.

Petecio remains committed to her training and is determined to bring home gold in Los Angeles 2028.
