A woman in Nepal was found alive under the rubble of her home 10 days after her family began mourning her, believing she had died in the devastating floods that hit the area.
The woman was identified as Chandika Kumari Shrestha, who was rescued from her collapsed home in Betrawati village, one of the areas hardest hit by the flooding.
According to police, Shrestha survived inside a narrow pocket of space within the collapsed structure, where she was able to breathe despite being surrounded by water, mud and debris.
Rescuers were conducting search operations when they reportedly heard Shrestha’s voice calling for help.
After a 45-minute rescue operation, the team successfully pulled her from the rubble and brought her to an army hospital for medical treatment.
Police said Shrestha’s family had already begun an 11-day mourning period, believing she had died in the disaster.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operations continue across Nepal following the massive floods, which have killed more than 1,300 people.
Thousands of others remain unaccounted for as authorities continue searching for survivors and recovering the remains of victims.
