The National Bureau of Investigation has begun preparing its own investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects, even without a formal directive from higher authorities.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed that he has already instructed the bureau’s regional offices to start gearing up for the probe. He said the bureau is taking a proactive approach in case other agencies later require their assistance in investigating the reported anomalies.
According to Santiago, the NBI wants to be ready to respond immediately once needed, underscoring the agency’s role in addressing corruption issues.
Santiago also stressed that the NBI will not show leniency in its inquiry. He assured the public that the investigation will be impartial and that the agency will not hesitate to file charges against those found guilty of corruption.
