Patrolman Francis Steve Fontillas has been officially dismissed from the Philippine National Police following a unanimous ruling by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) En Banc.
The decision, handed down after summary dismissal proceedings, found Fontillas guilty of grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and disloyalty to the government. In addition to his dismissal from service, Fontillas was handed an accessory penalty of perpetual disqualification from holding any position in government.
Fontillas had previously resigned from the police force, but NAPOLCOM clarified that his resignation did not prevent the administrative cases against him from moving forward.
The controversy stems from Fontillas’ public criticism of the PNP in the wake of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest. His remarks drew sharp attention and raised questions regarding police discipline and loyalty within the ranks.
NAPOLCOM emphasized that the ruling was based on due process and evidence, underscoring its commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within the police force.
