Mother and daughter killed by jealous live-in partner

A mother and her teenage daughter were shot dead by a jealous live-in partner in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, Cebu, on Wednesday evening.

The victims were identified as 38-year-old Jennivive Abella and her 14-year-old daughter, Valerie Megan Abella. The suspect, Jennivive’s live-in partner, was identified as Jetur Lapiña.

According to police, the shooting occurred at around 7 p.m. when the suspect, believed to be intoxicated, arrived at their home and opened fire on the victims. Three live bullets and two fired cartridge cases from a .45 caliber gun were recovered at the scene.

Neighbors told authorities that jealousy was a frequent source of conflict between Jennivive and Jetur. One neighbor reported hearing a brief argument followed by gunshots. When they checked on the victims, they found the mother and daughter lying lifeless and immediately called the police.

The suspect was arrested in a hot pursuit operation shortly after the crime.
