Mia Fevola, 25, knows she comes from a famous family, but she is determined to prove herself on her own terms. The daughter of AFL legend Brendan Fevola and former dancer Alex Fevola is stepping out from their shadow by competing in the latest season of Dancing With the Stars.
She told Woman’s Day Australia that she proudly accepts her nepo baby status, which has given her life advantages. However, she is focused on building her own achievements and forging an identity separate from her family name.
Facing fears on national television
Fevola admits the show pushed her well outside her comfort zone. She described herself as naturally introverted and said she was overcome with emotion after her first performance. She said she could not stop crying and felt petrified.
Despite the nerves, she said that initial dance gave her a deep sense of pride and proved that hard work and determination can overcome fear.
Parental support and mentorship
Mia leaned on both parents as she prepared for the show. She said her father helped with dance practice at home, though anxiety rarely affected him. Meanwhile, her mother offered mental support, having struggled with similar nerves during her own time on reality TV over a decade ago.
Her mother advised her to leave the nerves backstage and step fully into the character once she hit the dance floor—a piece of wisdom Mia says made a real difference.
Plans beyond the dance floor
Mia sees Dancing With the Stars as just the beginning of her career. She is currently studying psychology and working as a makeup artist in the family business. Yet TV hosting remains a dream.
The show, which reunites her with pro dancer Gustavo Viglio, has given her newfound confidence. She now envisions a place for herself in the entertainment industry—on her own terms and with her own voice.
Although she acknowledges the challenge of stepping into the public eye under her family’s legacy, she has also shown she has the resilience and determination to carve her own path.
And as the competition heats up, Mia’s next move could solidify whether she is more than just a Fevola—and what kind of spotlight she’s really made to own.
