The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has begun coordinating with Cacai Mitra, the sister of singer Regine Velasquez, following her viral social media post about her high electricity bill for the month of May.
In the post, Mitra revealed that her electricity bill had reached nearly ₱94,000.
According to Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga, the company saw Mitra’s post and immediately reached out to better understand her concerns regarding the billing amount.
At the same time, Meralco explained that Mitra’s account is classified as a high-load service account and that there was no unusual surge in her electricity consumption during the billing period.
The company said the increase in her bill was consistent with her seasonal consumption pattern and remained within the normal range of her previous electricity bills.
Meralco added that these details have already been explained to Mitra.
In her viral post, Mitra said that her household is very conscious about electricity consumption and jokingly remarked that they live in a house, not a commercial building, in response to the size of the bill.
