Marcos’ ‘suka delivery’ remark sparks backlash from Duterte’s senatorial slate

Duterte’s senatorial candidates have strongly responded to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s recent remarks, where he seemingly mocked certain candidates, claiming they only delivered vinegar yet still managed to file their certificates of candidacy.

Speaking at the inaugural campaign rally of Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Marcos said, “Nagtataka nga ako parang ‘yung mga iba na naging kandidato eh nag-deliver lang yata ng suka eh nabigyan na ng certificate of candidacy dahil walang ikukumpara sa ating mga kandidato.”

This statement did not sit well with Duterte’s senatorial lineup. They argued that, despite being dismissed as mere vinegar vendors, many of them are accomplished lawyers, a general, and an award-winning actor.

Currently, Duterte’s slate has nine candidates, while Marcos’ Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas has 12. The clash highlights deepening political tensions ahead of the 2025 elections.
