Marcos cancels public events, monitors EDSA rally

Malacañang canceled several public engagements of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. outside the Palace on Monday as the President continued monitoring developments related to the ongoing rally along EDSA.

Among the activities originally scheduled for the President was the inauguration of a marine clean-up vessel for the Enhancement of Marine Litter Management.

Marcos also canceled his attendance at the Presidential Luncheon organized by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP).

Despite the changes, the President’s activities inside Malacañang will proceed as scheduled.

Acting Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez said the President is closely monitoring the situation surrounding the ongoing rally along EDSA.

According to Gomez, Marcos continues to receive updates on developments, including the situation of Filipinos whose travel and work have been disrupted by the activity.

The President is also monitoring the welfare of other individuals affected by the gathering, as well as the actions being carried out by the Philippine National Police in performing its mandate to provide protection and security to the public.

Malacañang did not announce any additional changes to the President’s schedule beyond the cancellation of his public engagements outside the Palace.

The Palace said Marcos continues to oversee the situation while carrying out his official duties within Malacañang.

The canceled engagements came as authorities managed the ongoing activity along EDSA, while the President remained informed of developments through updates provided by government officials.
