Malacañang dismisses impeachment talk vs Marcos Jr.

Malacañang dismissed reports of a possible impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., describing the move as “political maneuvering” and saying the claims lack sufficient basis.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the statements about a planned impeachment were allegedly coming from supporters of a politician and were not supported by facts. She said there is no valid ground for an impeachment complaint against the president.

Castro stressed that the president remains focused on leading the country and delivering results for the public, despite the allegations circulating online and in political circles.

The issue stemmed from remarks by Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice, who said that certain groups had approached him to seek his endorsement for a possible impeachment complaint against the president. According to Erice, these groups cited alleged betrayal of public trust as their reason.

Erice further claimed that some lawmakers believe there is basis for impeachment related to alleged P1.45 trillion insertions and anomalous projects included in the national budget signed into law.
