Magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolts Northern Samar

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Northern Samar on Thursday evening, October 2, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

PHIVOLCS recorded the tremor at 6:21 p.m., locating its epicenter seven kilometers north-northeast of San Vicente, Northern Samar. The quake originated from tectonic movement at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Authorities said the earthquake will not cause damage. However, residents should brace for possible aftershocks following the initial tremor.
