A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Northern Samar on Thursday evening, October 2, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHIVOLCS recorded the tremor at 6:21 p.m., locating its epicenter seven kilometers north-northeast of San Vicente, Northern Samar. The quake originated from tectonic movement at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Authorities said the earthquake will not cause damage. However, residents should brace for possible aftershocks following the initial tremor.
The agency continues to monitor the situation while reminding communities to stay alert and follow safety protocols in the event of stronger quakes.
As of this report, no casualties, structural damage, or major disruptions were recorded in Northern Samar and nearby provinces.
